Overview

John H. Northrop & Associates, Inc. d/b/a JHNA seeks a talented individual to serve as an Aviation Systems Lead, supporting JHNA's AMRDEC customer at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Tidewater Region, Virginia. The Analyst will assist the Army Aviation government customer with developing and evaluating capabilities and determining Science and Technology (S&T) priorities for improving a wide range of aviation programs.  Work may include aviation and aircraft survivability, holistic situational awareness for decision making, advanced teaming, modeling and simulation, future threat systems determination, and support to mission effectiveness trade studies.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Provide aviation operations subject matter expertise to government engineers and program managers;
  • Analyze modeling and simulation (M&S) tools and results, recommend modifications to M&S tools, and help evaluate and select future M&S tools;
  • Support concept development for complex products and features, including technical market research on emerging technologies;
  • Improve processes, tools, and procedures; coordinate technical roadmaps across the mission systems domain;
  • Catalog and analyze current and emerging state-of-the-art threat systems;
  • Interact with intelligence analysts, users, and materiel developers to gather information and communicate analysis and projections;
  • Support development and execution aviation survivability simulations;
  • Develop future aviation survivability and mission effectiveness concepts; 
  • Translate operational and/or product requirements into design, fabrication and testing objectives; and/or,
  • Provide Test and Evaluation support.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required

  • Knowledge of military aviation operations, flight crew duties, and use of unmanned systems teamed with manned aviation units.  
  • Minimum 10 years experience as an Army aviator, with experience on operational deployments
  • Knowledge of measures of performance and measures of suitability to assess mission effectiveness of new operational concepts or new capabilities. Ability to design test vignettes with technical metrics to assess measures of performance and measures of effectiveness is highly desired.
  • Strong familiarity with current aircraft survivability equipment and electronic warfare
  • US Citizen with at least a current Secret security clearance
  • At least a BA/BS degree

 

Desired

  • Experience in development of test and evaluation plans applicable to aviation systems
  • Experience generating operational and system views based on DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
  • Experience producing and/or reviewing technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, analyses, and acquisition plans and strategies
  • Avionics expertise (e.g. Interface Control Document (ICD), open system architecture, hardware, and software)
  • Experience with systems engineering as applied to complex software solutions and systems integration of human-in the-loop software systems
  • Experience with software architecture design and implementation, and integration of disparate software systems using open systems architecture standards
  • Army Aviation TACOPS/AMSO Course graduate
  • Knowledge/experience on aviation simulation systems
  • Technical degree a plus
