    John H. Northrop & Associates, Inc. (JHNA) seeks a talented software engineer for support of its government customer. The individual should have significant experience in the design and development of software applications using the C++ programming language. The Software Engineer will be responsible for software design and implementation of avionics software. Must be able to independently analyze and quickly ascertain the expected software functionality and utilize this knowledge to develop quality software.


    The Software Engineer provides critical software development and compliance support.


    The individual will:


    • Participate in the software development processes, including definition, design, implementation, documentation and testing
    • Independently analyze system behaviors to troubleshoot and harden software.
    • Participate as a member of a multifunctional integrated product team
    • Analyze current processes and recommend improvements
    • Prepare, write, and deliver reports, as directed by project managers
    • Perform other software development tasks as directed
    • Complete tasks on time and in compliance with program processes/procedures
    • Other duties may be assigned, as necessary.



    • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics
    • 0-5 years of software development experience
    • Experience developing software with C++
    • Proficiency utilizing software debugging tools (i.e. gdb)
    • Understanding of state-of-the-practice software development methodologies
    • Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
    • Experience preparing and conducting software development testing
    • Experience preparing and participating in software design and code reviews
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly describe issues to both the software development team and technical leadership.
    • Familiarity with and ability to work with teammates in a highly collaborative environment.
    • Proficiency in utilizing MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
    • Willingness to travel, as directed by the customer (estimated <10%)
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.  



    • Experience with Agile software development management methodology
    • Experience with UML and/or Model Based Development
    • Experience with IBM Rational Rhapsody family development kit
    • Experience with software development for Aviation Systems
    • Experience with developing software for RTOS
    • Experience with RTCA DO-178B/C
    • Experience with Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE)
    • Active/current security clearance
